Chong Kim
U15 Assistant Coach
Chong
enters his sixth year at Sudden Impact this season. He started playing
while still in high school and continued playing in college with the
club team at Western Washington University for a season until a back
injury sidelined him for a few years. Upon graduating from WWU, he
continued to play in various rec leagues and outdoor tournaments.
Chong started coaching at Bishop Blanchet High School with the
C-team and assisting the varsity team for the 2003 and 2004 seasons.
During his two years at Bishop Blanchet, the varsity team finished 5th in State in 2003 and won the 3A state title in 2004.
In
addition, Chong has also coached at the collegiate level serving as a
volunteer assistant at Seattle University for three seasons (2005, 2006
and 2007) where he worked with setters, middles and outside hitters as
well as assisted with evaluating potential recruits and video analysis.
He has also coached at Jim McLaughlin Summer Camps and Seattle
University Clinics.
During his time at Sudden Impact, Chong has qualified for the
Junior Olympics three times, twice as an assistant coach (2005 and
2009) with U17 Storm and once as the head coach (2007) of U14
Hurricane.
A
graduate of Western Washington University, Chong lives in Redmond with
his dog Goldie. He works as a consultant at Implement.com managing
various projects and building online training. In his spare time, Chong
likes to ski, fly fish and camp, but never seems to find enough time to
do much as he would like since he started coaching.
