FAQs

General Club Questions

Q: What is club volleyball?
Club volleyball is much like select soccer and softball. There are open tryouts for team selections after which teams will practice 2-3 times per week and play a tournament approximately every other weekend for 4 – 6 months depending on the age group.

Q: What are the age group definitions for the 2012 season?
U18 – Players born on or after September 1st, 1993
U17 – Players born on or after September 1st, 1994
U16 – Players born on or after September 1st, 1995
U15 – Players born on or after September 1st, 1996
U14 – Players born on or after September 1st, 1997
U13 – Players born on or after September 1st, 1998
U12 – Players born on or after September 1st, 1999

Q: How old do I have to be to start playing club volleyball?
It is never too early to start! We have had players as young as nine years old playing on our U12 teams in past years. The earlier athletes are introduced to the sport of volleyball the more likely they are to develop the correct techniques.

Q: When and where are games played?
Club volleyball is arranged by age groups and tournaments are held on weekends. Most local tournaments are one-day events held in the greater Seattle/Tacoma area, and most regional or national tournaments are three-day events.  Each day of a tournament is an all-day affair typically starting about 8:00am and ending around 6:00pm with teams playing multiple matches in a day.

Our 12s & 13s will participate in two national qualifying tournaments (Pacific Northwest Qualifier inSpokane, as well as the Puget Sound Region’s local qualifier).  Our 14s-18s will participate in the above two qualifiers as well as one additional to-be-determined out of state qualifier.

All of our teams will participate in approximately two local tournaments per month including at least two national qualifying tournaments during the course of the season plus the region’s local national qualifying event, attempting to qualify for Junior Nationals.

SIVBC fees cover all tournament entry fees; equipment; uniforms; gym rental costs; coaches’ expenses; club administration; all player, coach and chaperone travel expenses (except food) to national qualifying tournaments and a season-ending tournament (including airline, hotel, and ground transportation if needed depending on the city) for all of our teams. (Note: Unless they qualify for Junior Nationals, our U12 & U13 teams will end their seasons in May).

Q: Do your teams travel?
All of our teams (U12 & U13 teams only if they qualify for Junior Nationals) travel to out-of-state tournaments. Our teams annually participate at various national qualifying tournaments.  In 2011, our teams participated in the Las Vegas Invitational (U17 and U18 only) as well as national qualifying tournaments in Spokane, and either Anaheim or Reno.  Our U14s-U18s participated in the Summer Soiree season-ending tournament in Anaheim in late June.  Final tournament schedules for 2012 will be available at tryouts.
